Toyota Safety Sense

You keep both hands on the wheel, you stay off of your phone, but all it takes is one small distraction or unpredictable situation for disaster to strike on the road. We aim to keep the driver, passengers, pedestrians and other drivers on the road safe. That is why there is Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). TSS is made up of multiple safety features that act as an extra set of eyes, hands and feet on the road for you. These features all work together to prevent accidents before they happen, and lesson the danger if they are inevitable. These features include the Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Let’s break down these features to fully understand how Toyota is keeping you and your family safe.

  1. Pre-Collision System (PCS). The purpose of the Pre-Collision System is exactly what you would guess – to prevent or minimize the damage of an accident when a collision is predicted. If th PCS senses that a collision is near, audio and visual alerts will go off to warn the driver. If the driver then applies the brakes, the PCS may add additional braking to ensure enough force is applied. Have no fear, if the driver does not apply the brakes, and the PCS senses that the risk of collision is extremely high, the system will apply the brakes for you. By doing so, the PCS aims to lessen the damage of a collision or avoid them altogether.
  2. Lane Departure Alert (LDA). This feature monitors your driving and is able to detect if the vehicle is deviating from its lane. Just like the PCS, the LDA will send out a visual and audio alert to warn the driver that they are not staying in their lane.
  3. Automatic High Beams. We all know the horrible feeling – you’re driving down a dark windy road at night and the car driving past you forgot to turn off their high beams. Well, this innovative feature thinks outside the box. Toyota’s Automatic High Beams is a safety system that uses a camera inside the vehicle to detect the headlights and taillights of other vehicles on the road. If another vehicle is detected, the high beams will automatically adjust to low beams. This feature gives you the best vision on the road while keeping you and other drivers safe.
  4. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Cruise control can decrease driver fatigue, help avoid speeding, and can add comfort on a long drive. However, other drivers on the road can mess with your smooth travels. TSS has your back on the road with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. This feature uses radar and camera technology to ensure that you maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. If the vehicle in front of you slows down, the DRCC system will adjust your speed. Once the obstruction is gone, the car will accelerate back to your set speed.

Have peace of mind on the road with Toyota Safety Sense. TSS combines Toyota’s innovative safety features to keep you, your passengers, and other drivers on the road safe.
